Description
Kalamkari is an ancient textile printing art form that literally translates to Pen Art (from Persian Qalam, meaning pen and Qari meaning art.) and is said to have arrived as early as about 3000 years ago in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Some believe the present day Kalamkari is a blend of Mughal Art and an art form called Patta Chitra, (which translates to Fabric Art from Sanskrit) from Andhra Pradesh. The pattern here is made using a common bird motif in the Kalamkari style.
